The last print I'm preparing for Fanime 2012 is fanart of BBC's Sherlock, which I've become quite enamored with. I'm considering doing a cosplay of him for the convention, since I have enough hair.
I had watched a LP of Asura's Wrath a week before I came up with this and I was dying to try and do some sort of fanart for it, and before I knew it, I had adapted it with Sherlock because his thinking pose looks like prayer. Then I decided to mix it with my Katanagatari-based style, and got this interesting hybrid. People that follow me on my tumblr (
[link]) got to see this one from the original thumbnail through a number of the sketch phases.
Other Details:A lot of little details won't make it through the printer I imagine, but the overall should turn out well. The picture is full of little references--The pill bottles from the first episode, the riding crop as rings, the Chinese tea pots...And then a bunch of names and references in the shadow. I tried throwing in the purples and greens to contrast all the yellow, and that yellow was annoying to work with at points because it wasn't very interesting. Interesting to note, I
drew this all in Illustrator which was an annoying process, but enabled me to work without worrying about what size print I was going to make it. I colored it in Photoshop though because doing it in Illustrator would've been a giant headache. I still don't like the program, but I'm learning how to use it a bit more.
I'll probably post some detail shots later.
